BOCO HIT TWELVE AS COUNTY CUP DELIVERS SHOCKS, GOALS AND THE END OF AN UNBEATEN RUN
AEK Boco take Division One by storm, Old Sodbury claim a superb County Cup victory and Made For Ever's remarkable 39-match unbeaten run finally comes to an end.
It was another extraordinary weekend for clubs across the Uhlsport Bristol Premier Combination, with two important Division One fixtures accompanied by a packed programme in the GFA Amateur League Cup.
There were goals by the dozen, impressive victories against higher-level opposition, unexpected cup exits and the end of one of the most remarkable unbeaten sequences in local football.
AEK Boco Reserves produced the headline league result, dismantling De Veys 12-1 at Greenbank Lane to move to the top of Division One, with Harrison Rogers and Ashton Russell both scoring four.
Chipping Sodbury Town Reserves also made their move, coming from behind to defeat Patchway Town and climb into second place, setting up a fascinating meeting with Boco.
In the County Cup, Old Sodbury continued their outstanding start with a 4-1 victory away to University of Bristol, while Cribbs Reserves scored five before half-time against Filton Athletic Reserves.
Winterbourne United hit six at AFC Mangotsfield Rocks Reserves, DRG Frenchay scored four at Longwell Green Sports Reserves, and Hallen Reserves produced another excellent away victory.
But perhaps the most significant result came at Totterdown United, where Made For Ever suffered a 6-1 defeat that brought their remarkable 39-match unbeaten run in competitive football to an end.
After weeks of goals and cup drama, this was another weekend with no shortage of talking points.
DIVISION ONE
BOCO RUN RIOT WITH TWELVE-GOAL MASTERCLASS
AEK Boco Reserves 12 De Veys 1
AEK Boco Reserves produced one of the most extraordinary results of the season with a remarkable 12-1 victory over De Veys at Greenbank Lane.
Connor Blyth's side were relentless from the opening whistle, overwhelming their visitors with a devastating attacking display.
Boco struck twice early on, both attacks causing problems down the left-hand side, and already looked capable of producing a substantial scoreline.
An effort for a third was ruled out by a tight offside decision in the 18th minute, but the hosts did not have to wait much longer.
A penalty in the 22nd minute made it 3-0.
And then the floodgates truly opened.
Boco scored five times in the final ten minutes of the first half to establish an astonishing 8-0 advantage at the interval.
De Veys had simply been unable to contain the home side's movement, pace and finishing.
The second half brought little respite.
Another goal arrived in the 48th minute, a tenth followed seven minutes later, and by the 58th minute the score had reached 11-0.
Boco eventually completed their dozen following a defensive error, with a goalkeeper's clearance rebounding off an attacker and finding the net.
Harrison Rogers and Ashton Russell both scored four goals, while Liam Dibble added two.
Kailen Anderson and William Saunders were also on the scoresheet.
Rogers collected the Man of the Match award after an exceptional individual performance.
To their credit, De Veys continued battling despite the scoreline.
Darren Bloomfield scored their consolation in the second half, while De-Veys also struck the underside of the crossbar during a late spell of attacking pressure.
But this was overwhelmingly Boco's afternoon.
Twelve goals, three points and top spot in Division One.
The result also represented a dramatic turnaround in fortunes for De Veys, who had entered the weekend unbeaten in league competition.
Boco, meanwhile, have now followed their seven-goal thriller against Patchway and impressive League Cup victory at Bedminster Down with an even more remarkable display.
Their attacking form is becoming one of the major stories of the Division One campaign.
CHIPPING SODBURY COME FROM BEHIND TO GO SECOND
Chipping Sodbury Town Reserves 2 Patchway Town 1
Chipping Sodbury Town Reserves continued their impressive improvement with an excellent comeback victory over Patchway Town at The Ridings.
Patchway arrived looking to recover from their narrow defeat against AEK Boco Reserves and made the stronger start.
Once again, Tom Butt was the man on target.
The prolific Patchway attacker opened the scoring in the 38th minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage at half-time.
Chipping Sodbury responded strongly after the interval.
Sam Hayden levelled the contest in the 60th minute, continuing his own good form after scoring in the previous league victory against Pucklechurch Sports.
The hosts then completed the turnaround with 14 minutes remaining.
Harrison French found the net in the 76th minute to make it 2-1, and Chipping Sodbury held firm to secure another valuable three points.
It was a particularly satisfying result for a side whose opening weeks had brought frustration in both league and cup competition.
Having suffered a narrow defeat at Lawrence Weston and penalty shootout disappointment against Phoenix NextGen, the Sods have now recorded consecutive league victories.
The result lifted them into second place, just one point behind AEK Boco Reserves with a game in hand.
And there is a fascinating twist.
The two sides are scheduled to meet next weekend.
After Boco's twelve-goal demolition of De Veys and Chipping Sodbury's impressive recovery against Patchway, that encounter promises to be one of Division One's most eagerly anticipated fixtures.
GFA AMATEUR LEAGUE CUP – SECOND ROUND
WINTERBOURNE HIT SIX AS BEARD CLAIMS HAT-TRICK
AFC Mangotsfield Rocks Reserves 1 Winterbourne United 6
Winterbourne United continued their excellent cup form with a commanding 6-1 victory away to AFC Mangotsfield Rocks Reserves.
Rocks had entered the weekend in confident mood following Ollie Baker's remarkable five-goal display against Cribbs Reserves in the League Cup.
But this time they found themselves on the receiving end of an emphatic attacking performance.
Jenson Beard led the way for Winterbourne with a superb hat-trick.
James Mainstone, Ashley White and Liam Sheppard also found the net as the visitors completed an impressive six-goal haul.
Christopher Astley scored Mangotsfield's consolation.
The home side were gracious in defeat, acknowledging that they had been well beaten by a Winterbourne team that produced several excellent finishes.
For Winterbourne, the result continued an impressive run in knockout football.
Having already eliminated Bristol Barcelona and Shirehampton Reserves from the League Cup, they have now added another emphatic victory in county competition.
CRIBBS SCORE FIVE BEFORE THE BREAK
Cribbs Reserves 5 Filton Athletic Reserves 0
Cribbs Reserves produced a devastating first-half display to sweep aside Filton Athletic Reserves 5-0.
All five goals arrived before the interval.
Aaron Coleman opened the scoring in the 17th minute, setting the tone for an outstanding attacking performance.
Tiago Mateus doubled the advantage seven minutes later before Andrew Forward added a third in the 31st minute.
Jordan Lawrence made it four after 40 minutes, and Mateus completed his brace in the 44th minute.
By half-time, the tie was effectively settled.
Cribbs completed the afternoon with a clean sheet and a comfortable passage into the next round.
After their difficult League Cup defeat at AFC Mangotsfield Rocks Reserves, it was an emphatic response.
TEN-MAN SHIREHAMPTON EXIT AT FILTON
Filton Athletic 3 Shirehampton Reserves 1
Shirehampton Reserves saw their County Cup campaign brought to an end with a 3-1 defeat against Gloucestershire County League opposition.
The visitors were reduced to ten men during the contest, making an already difficult assignment even more challenging.
Jordan Whittaker scored Shirehampton's goal, continuing his productive run in front of goal.
Filton's scorers were Taylor Anderson, Fraser Venables and Freddie Joe Frazer, with Venables striking in the 80th minute and Frazer adding another three minutes later.
Shirehampton will now turn their attention back towards league competition.
HALLEN CONTINUE THEIR CUP MOMENTUM
Henbury & Rockleaze Reserves 1 Hallen Reserves 3
Hallen Reserves maintained their excellent knockout form with an impressive 3-1 away victory against Henbury & Rockleaze Reserves.
George Binding continued his strong goalscoring run by finding the net once again.
But it was Hallen's substitutes who helped make the difference.
Callum Berry came off the bench to score, while Alfie Jones also entered the action and found the net.
It was another demonstration of the strength available throughout the Hallen squad.
After scoring seven against AEK Boco Reserves in the GFA Senior Amateur Cup and six against Lion in the League Cup, Hallen have continued to deliver in knockout competition.
Another three goals and another cup victory.
SNEYD PARK END ACTON'S CUP HOPES
Iron Acton 0 Sneyd Park 2
Iron Acton's County Cup campaign ended with a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Sneyd Park.
After their impressive 5-1 league victory over Olveston United the previous weekend, Acton had hoped to carry that momentum into cup competition.
Instead, they endured a frustrating afternoon.
George Evenden opened the scoring for Sneyd Park in the 55th minute.
Acton searched for a way back into the contest, but the visitors held firm before Jacob Towl struck in the 90th minute to seal the victory.
Acton were critical of their own performance afterwards, acknowledging that they had fallen well below the standards expected.
Sneyd Park progressed, leaving Iron Acton to concentrate on their remaining competitions.
FRENCHAY MARCH ON IN NEW COLOURS
Longwell Green Sports Reserves 1 DRG Frenchay 4
DRG Frenchay celebrated the debut of their new kit in style with an excellent 4-1 victory away to Longwell Green Sports Reserves.
The visitors took control of the tie with a strong attacking performance, establishing a lead before half-time.
Emiel Aiken, Dylan Chiwetu and Max Wiltshire were all on target, while Joe Loney produced one of the highlights of the afternoon with a beautifully struck free-kick.
Longwell continued battling and eventually found a consolation through Sam Gazzard in the 87th minute.
But Frenchay's four-goal display had already put the result beyond doubt.
The visitors celebrated afterwards with a simple message: "The Durge march on!"
And after another convincing cup performance, there is good reason for their optimism.
BARCELONA BOW OUT AT OLD COTHAMIANS
Old Cothamians 1 Bristol Barcelona 0
Bristol Barcelona suffered a narrow County Cup exit after going down 1-0 away to Old Cothamians.
Oliver Palmer scored the decisive goal for the hosts, who held firm to secure their place in the next round.
For Barcelona, it was another frustrating afternoon in knockout football.
Having already been eliminated from the League Cup by Winterbourne United, their latest defeat means they can now concentrate fully on their Premier Division campaign.
Barca remain unbeaten in league competition, but their cup ambitions have ended earlier than they would have hoped.
OLVESTON TOO STRONG FOR WANDERERS
Olveston United 2 Nicholas Wanderers 0
Olveston United produced a commanding performance to defeat Nicholas Wanderers 2-0 and progress in the County Cup.
James Brock opened the scoring after 13 minutes, with the hosts taking advantage of a free-kick opportunity.
Luke Franklin doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute with a well-struck effort.
From there, Olveston controlled much of the contest.
Nicholas Wanderers goalkeeper Mitch Norman produced an outstanding display to prevent the scoreline becoming more emphatic.
Norman made a succession of excellent saves, particularly during the second half, to keep his side in contention.
Wanderers improved after the break and enjoyed their best spell during the opening 15 minutes.
Ashley Scrase came closest to reducing the deficit, but his header was brilliantly saved at point-blank range by the Olveston goalkeeper.
That proved to be Wanderers' clearest opportunity.
Olveston gradually regained control, with Norman continuing to frustrate the hosts through a series of further saves.
For Nicholas Wanderers, the defeat extended a difficult run of results.
They will now look for an improvement ahead of their forthcoming local derby against Hanham Athletic.
Olveston, meanwhile, progress with a deserved victory and a clean sheet.
LAWRENCE WESTON SUFFER SHOOTOUT HEARTBREAK
Portland Old Boys 3 Lawrence Weston 3\
Portland Old Boys won 4-1 on penalties
Lawrence Weston suffered a frustrating County Cup exit after a dramatic six-goal encounter against Portland Old Boys.
The hosts established a 2-0 half-time advantage through goals from Charlie Woollerson in the 26th minute and Aidan O'Keefe in the 33rd.
Jack Halstead added Portland's third in the 73rd minute.
But Lawrence Weston refused to surrender.
Dan Miller, Loui Cummings and Louie Dunn were all on target as Weston fought their way back into the contest.
Having trailed 3-1, the visitors produced an excellent recovery to make it 3-3.
They even had an opportunity to win the match from the penalty spot, only for their effort to be saved.
The tie eventually went to a shootout, where Portland prevailed 4-1.
For Weston, it was a bitterly disappointing conclusion after showing considerable character to recover from two goals behind.
They will feel they had done enough during normal time to deserve a place in the next round.
MADE FOR EVER'S 39-MATCH RUN FINALLY ENDS
Totterdown United 6 Made For Ever 1
One of the most remarkable unbeaten sequences in local football came to an end as Made For Ever suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat away to Totterdown United.
The Division One newcomers had enjoyed an extraordinary run of results stretching across 39 competitive matches.
Their impressive form had carried into the new campaign, with convincing league victories and memorable cup performances against Premier Division opposition.
They had already eliminated Iron Acton from the League Cup and Greyfriars Athletic from the GFA Senior Amateur Cup, while also surviving a penalty shootout against Longwell Green Sports Reserves.
But their latest County Cup assignment proved a step too far.
Totterdown United produced a dominant performance to record a comprehensive 6-1 victory.
Jake McCracken scored Made For Ever's consolation, while Harry Neill collected their Man of the Match award.
Made For Ever were candid in their assessment, acknowledging that they had been outclassed by the home side.
They also offered their congratulations to Totterdown and wished them well in the next round.
The result ends a remarkable 39-match unbeaten run in competitive football.
It is a significant moment in Made For Ever's recent history, but one defeat does little to diminish what they have achieved.
Their attention now returns to Division One and the League Cup, where they remain very much in contention.
OLD SODBURY CLAIM IMPRESSIVE COUNTY CUP SCALP
University of Bristol 1 Old Sodbury 4
Old Sodbury continued their excellent start to the season with an impressive 4-1 victory away to University of Bristol.
Facing opposition from the Gloucestershire County League, the Old Sods produced another strong performance to secure their place in the next round.
Alfie Andrews, Jordan Hickman, Seb Woodward and Callum Ball shared the goals.
University of Bristol replied through Jason Pool, who scored in the 42nd minute.
But Old Sodbury's attacking quality ultimately proved decisive.
The visitors were equally impressive at the opposite end, with Matty Tanner producing an outstanding defensive performance.
Tanner was named Man of the Match after a display in which he dominated his defensive duties and repeatedly won important challenges.
It was another excellent result for an Old Sodbury side that has combined prolific scoring with an unbeaten start across league and cup competition.
With league action returning next weekend, they will hope to carry that momentum forward.
HANHAM EDGED OUT AT WICK
Wick 1 Hanham Athletic 0
Hanham Athletic's County Cup campaign came to an end following a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Wick.
The visitors were unable to find a breakthrough in a closely contested encounter.
For Wick, Liam Planter produced an outstanding defensive performance, dominating in the air and making several important blocks to help preserve the clean sheet.
